Towing the party line

On Sunday, Nov 2, 2008, Law Minister K Shanmugam showed why he continues to deserve his 7 figure income.

The law minister said: "Who builds our HDB flats? Where do we live? Who builds our roads? Can we really even have our basic infrastructure to continue to be upgraded, without foreign workers?
"There are some jobs that Singaporeans won't do, and then there are some jobs that Singaporeans cannot do... We need to be welcoming our guest workers; we need to be welcoming our expatriates, all of that in pursuit of our national interest."

Do we really need half a million foreign workers to build HDB flats for 3.5 million people?
Isn't the ratio a little high?

Where do we live?
I know you don't live anywhere near where I live and therefore, I don't believe you and your other 7 figured income friends are actually in touch with reality.
But if you are asking where would we live if these workers didn't build our homes, please explain this. We have some HDB estates in Singapore that are over 30 years old, BUT, they are HDB flats, so you poor souls, just continue living in them.
BUT, 18 Anderson (this is a real condo, I am not making it up) was barely past 10 years old, if that, and was put en bloc... why? To create jobs for these foreign workers?

Yes, there are jobs that Singaporeans won't do. I have stated that before. But, if push comes to shove, I bet we would do anything to make ends meet. Also, don't blame us for not wanting those jobs. Why would we want those jobs if we are chasing the dream the PAP has created... the 7 figure income... you all created a monster you have lost control over and so your solution is to... hire foreign workers. Don't blame us.

There are jobs that Singaporeans cannot do???
If we can't do it, then why is it here in the first place?
Our only resource is human talent. Are there seriously half a million jobs that Singaporeans cannot do? Are we not investing enough into our own human talent?
Is this really "NATIONAL INTEREST"?

Regarding the fiasco with the minibonds, high notes, etc...

The law minister said: "The government has set service standards for the various institutions involved – where there has been mis-selling, there has to be compensation. And how do you identify mis-selling?
"We have neutral evaluators and certain processes to follow. All complaints need to be acknowledged within two days. Any complaint should be dealt with in a matter of weeks, each to be looked at carefully."

Again, what exactly is "mis-selling"?

Do you remember those con-men who went around selling stones that were supposed to have healing powers? The stones changed colours when put in water and was supposed to signify you were ill, etc, etc, etc. They charged people thousands of dollars for those stones and... when these people went home, they were only to find that they had been cheated. The stones WERE NOT what they (the con-men) said they were. Is that mis-selling? Or is that cheating? I  believe it was termed as fraud as those men were thrown in jail.
I don't see the difference between what those con-men did compared to what these financial institutions have done. These financial institutions have sold something that is not. There is no 100% capital guarantee. So, how can you advertise that? That's false advertising and I believe there is a law against that. And if those con-men were thrown in jail, then... cheating your customers, whether you are a respectable (?) financial institution or not, should also be a crime.
There is no if, ands or buts to this.
Let's stop using the word "mis-selling" (it is not even a word).
Call it FRAUD, call it THEFT, call it a CON-JOB, call it CHEATING, call it any of those things.
IT IS NOT "MIS-SELLING"!!!
Therefore, there should not be "complaints". You don't complain about a crime. Your REPORT a crime.
Oh, wait, sorry, but I just wasted all my time writing this because... it's DBS. Please don't sue them, they are as Singaporean as PAP can be. So, let's all just file a complaint and the MAS (or government or PAP, whatever) will ACKNOWLEDGE your complain in 2 days. And then it will be dealt with in a matter of weeks. No, not 1 week, not 12 weeks, "a matter of weeks". So, if it takes 52 or 104 weeks, it's still a matter of weeks. Oh, and all that after I have already spent time knocking the doors of the banks and didn't get a satisfactory response. Are you serious??

I think all you 7 figure income drawing fools really need to stop sitting in your clouds and come down back to earth.

I share your points regarding the Mini Bond.

"E BRAKE~~~ I think they are missing the point. The Complains is about MIS SELLING. If there's MIS SELLING, Y do the Investors need to bear responsibility? From wat i understand, Low Risk Investment, you won't lose 100% (Correct me if i'm wrong pls) But in this case, the product seem to be sold as a LOW RISK when it's actually HIGH RISK. RIGHT??? So y do the BUYER ve to take responsibility when the SELLER CHEATED? (Mis Sell)"

"Some pple may say, for the older retirees, this is applicatable. Some may say tat for the young, more savvy generation, they should be more careful, etc. E BRAKE again~~~ If this is a case of mis selling, even if i'm finanically knowledgable, i may be CHEATED too right? I mean if i'm finanically knowledge, and i noe tat it's a HIGH RISK with 5%%%%%%%% returns only, WTH? No way man... RIGHT??? Who in the right mind, whose finanically investment smart will invest in HIGH RISK 5% returns?"

But I didn't write 1 thing. That we should report a Crime and not Complain about Mis Selling...

misselling harder to prove as legally, the buyers signed on the dotted line and the assumption is that they understood the fine print.

although everyone knows that targeting retired ignorants make easy hitting of kpi
