1) Georgie and Aljunied GRC
With "dark clouds in the horizon" and fast approaching Aljunied, GY has suffered a mental block in his reasoning skills.
In a news clip earlier and in the ST, GY said: "I have mixed feelings about calling voters secret weapons to be used, to be fired with as cannon fodder. I mean, voters are what gives us our right to be in Parliament. I think their needs, their wishes, their primacy, must come first. I would not use them as though they are instruments to be chosen or discarded."
Just wonderful!! Once in every 4 or 5 years, I am glad the PAP recognizes that WE give you the right to be in Parliament. Once in every 4 or 5 years, you remember that OUR needs, OUR wishes come first. It's completely alright that for the other portions of the 4 or 5 years, YOU forget that we even exist.
By the way, the WP did not use the words "secret weapons" in that context.
He also accuses the WP or creating an "emotional dilemma" and says that he "find(s) that it's against the spirit of democracy".
WHAT?
Because we have now have the best choice in 45 years of whether we want lift upgradings and plant pruning versus a voice in parliament that could be the check and balance towards more accountability, it is against the spirit of democracy?
In the "spirit of democracy", every legal voter would have the right to make a CHOICE, something that the citizens of Singapore have long been deprived of. Many citizens have long been made to choose between a package similar to the "Grow and Share" package and lures of "neighborhood renewal" right before an election. With the quality of the opposition candidates being below expectations (because of the FEAR of joining opposition politics), the choices were simple. Let me get my money, however meager, my covered walkway and newly painted walls and the PAP can continue to control my life, spend my CPF money, build casinos, unchecked.
Well, today, the opposition (though hardly opposed to good policies of the incumbent government) presents the voters with the most qualified slate in 45 years. People who could possibly to as much, if not more, than some of their present Members of Parliament. These same people CAN also voters the same "neighborhood renewals", the same "GROW and SHARE" packages.
HOW IS THAT AGAINST THE "SPIRIT OF DEMOCRACY"?
HOW IS THAT AN "EMOTIONAL DILEMMA"?
GY also says that the WP is "using Aljunied GRC as a platform to launch its ambition of becoming a "major party" in Parliament - "to block any constitutional changes so they can prepare to take over."
- I would be concerned if the WP did not have a dream of becoming a major party. Their vision would be extremely short sighted.
- After being labeled and suffering as "opposition party" candidates for YEARS, I would find it very hard to believe that they were going to Parliament with a goal of disrupting any and every constitutional change.
I ask GY... does your GRC team have a qualified counselor for you to visit with? You might need it.
2) Charlie and Joo Chiat SMC
CC decided he was going to join his lesser mortals on a bus ride yesterday. Possibly the first (and last) bus ride he took in YEARS.
From the ST: "Unlike his Workers' Party opponent Yee Jenn Jong, 46. Mr Chong is not a Joo Chiat resident. But he insists he is aware of the issues unique to the area, where around 99 per cent of families live in private housing, with many in landed property."
Does he really?
If he really thinks that bus services, narrow roads and lack of parking spaces are the primary concern of the residents of Joo Chiat, he is WRONG.
I wrote about the problems of Joo Chiat in an earlier post. I have a extremely reliable source who lives there and has never had a visit from a PAP candidate in years.
3) Mikey and Pasir Ris - Punggol GRC/Punggol East SMC
MP said that the opposition only appears during GE time.
It is most likely true.
Most of them do not even have a regular job paying $15,000/mth, let alone a part time job paying $15,000/mth.
Most of them do not know if the places they visit are going to be in the same GRC it was in during the last election, or carved out to be part of another GRC or maybe even an SMC.
Most of them are not as privileged as the PAP candidates who get to set the rules (and break them), change the rules, change the playing field to work in their favor every time a General Elections come around.
I challenge the new government to:
- Do away with GRCs right after these elections. Settle on ALL SMC boundary lines.
- Set the date for the next elections
- And either cut the MP's pay by half or make it a full time job.
