Why ANY GRC or SMC should go to the opposition...

if TEO SOH LUNG is contesting there.
As another writer stated. The "ghost from the past" is back. And this ghost is no ordinary ghost.

In case you are too young to know (and as it has been pointed out to me, Singaporean kids DO NOT learn about these things in their history classes) or in case you may have forgotten.

Either google "Teo Soh Lung" or "Operation Spectrum".
One of the darkest days in Singapore's history.

Teo Soh Lung and the other 21 detainees in Operation Spectrum are the reasons why there MUST be an alternative voice in parliament.
For 46 years, the ruling party has been running amok because there are no checks and balances in place. They are their own checks and balances and the result is what you see today. All the problems are because when one tries to be the voice of checks and balances, they are immediately hushed and if not so lucky, detained. Detained under the wonderful ISA (Internal Security Act). An act that detains someone in a supposedly democratic society with no trial for as long as the people in charge see fit (or in their terms, till rehabilitated). Thus 46 years of rule.

Teo Soh Lung and the other 21 detainees were active in the social work scene when they were arrested and detained. They were accused of plotting to overthrow the then government and replacing the government with a Marxist style government. Really?
22 professionals going to overthrow the government? With what? Bare fists?
Just like today, the government back then has/had neglected the bottom 20%. They have left that task to the different social network groups (mostly religious based) to look after that segment. Many of the 22 were doing just that, looking out for the interests of the less privileged. But that exposes the failings of the government.

I believe that politics and religion should not mix. But, there are some issues, that intertwine. The 22 "Marxist Conspiracy" detainees were not mixing religion and politics. For that matter, they were not even mixing political ideologies. They were simply the voice for the less privileged people who, were supposed to represented, but were not.

Voting for Teo Soh Lung in these upcoming elections is not supporting Marxism.
It is supporting DEMOCRACY.
It is supporting CHECKS AND BALANCES.
It is supporting PREVENTING THE INCUMBENTS FROM BEING COMPLACENT AND GREEDY.
It is supporting CHANGE.
It is supporting a BETTER SINGAPORE, which our current leaders seem to only give lip service to.

This is a video with Teo Soh Lung speaking out against the ISA and discussing her detention.
