I have 400 million great reasons...
1) YOG
2) YOG
3) YOG...
399,999,997) YOG
399,999,998) YOG
399,999,999) YOG
400,000,000) YOG
You get the picture?
That's $400m+ of tax payers money (YOUR money and MY money). BUT, it's not the spending of the money that is of concern to me and many other soon-to-be voters. It's the fact that the then Minister DOES NOT want to account for each and every single dollar spent and why the budget was blown.
ACCOUNTABILITY - it does not exist with the recently dissolved government.
I spend more than 50% of my time outside of Singapore due to my work. I have lived in several countries other than Singapore during my lifetime, Australia, Germany, US, Hong Kong, just to name a few.
Late last year, I decided to ask some of my "international" friends and acquaintances (53 to be exact) about the YOG.
(Disclaimer: This is not a scientific poll. My friends may be ignorant and naive. But here are some of their profiles. More than 50% of them are avid football fans, mostly following the English, Italian or other European nations football leagues. 2 of them from down under are rugby coaches, one at club level, one at high school level. One of my friends in Germany is a gymnastics coach. Six of my friends in Europe are football coaches ranging from little kids to club level.)
NONE. NONE of them had heard of the YOG.
Contrary to what our previous government and their mouthpieces of the media would have us believe that the YOG was the next big thing after the Olympic Games itself. It is not. Leading up to and during the YOG, either online or on paper print, I tried looking up for info on the YOG and... it was hard to find.
Here's my point, $400 million (overspent budget by 3 times the allocated amount) spent on an event the government hyped as a huge global event. That's what you will be getting if Holland-Bukit Timah GRC does not go to the opposition.
400,000,001) The same person responsible for above is a sneaky little bastard.
The video.
Great, hint at a video on youtube and let everyone wonder what you are talking about and let them dig all the dirt out.
Didn't a certain someone from the same party just urge for a "clean fight"? Whatever happened to that?
"Strange bedfellows". That was low. That also has the implications of mixing politics with religion. That was downright sneaky.
Does anyone really believe Vincent Wijeysingha did not expect this issue to come up. So what if he is gay? Does ones sexual orientation diminish ones ability to lead? Does it diminish ones ability to care for the electorate? Does it diminish ones commitment to serve? Personally, I think MONEY does all those things, not sexual orientation.
So what if one of VW's priorities is to abolish Section 377A? How does that hurt those who don't practice "sex between men"? This law doesn't even remotely affect straight heterosexual people. It may be against religious teachings, but... that's mixing politics and religion.
Community Development, Youth and Sports. Wonderful! I'm sure part of community development involves discrimination. AND, teaching the youth how to pit two people against each other by being deceitful and cunning.

What you said is so true. We would be voting for someone who is promoting bigotry. Read this other blog I just came across too...

You are so right. I am definitely voting for SDP.
It is hard to decide who to vote for. To me, it is important to know what is going on in other countries, how they manage their budget and what has happened in the past, to guide ourself. I travelled to Argentina last year. I stayed in a hotel in calafate, the south of the country (pretty amazing by the way, I met wonderful people in the hotel that were from Buenos Aires), and they told me how politics were being managed there and it changed my vision with regard to my own country politics.
Very mind opening!
